Luka Doncic dropped 42 points to guide the Los Angeles Lakers to a 138-117 win over the Miami Heat on Monday night. The performance marked the fifth straight game in which Doncic has reached at least 37 points. He also collected 13 assists and seven rebounds in the decisive victory.

The Lakers held a commanding lead after the break. Doncic added nine points in the first four and a half minutes of the third quarter to push the margin to 19 points. Miami did not mount a serious challenge in the final period. Austin Reaves scored 27 points while starting the fourth quarter with Doncic on the bench.

Doncic has averaged 43.4 points per game over his last five outings. He scored 24 points by halftime on Monday. The guard opened the night with 16 points, five assists, and four rebounds in the first quarter. He has scored at least 13 points in all but one of his seven games this season.

The Heat opened a five-game Western Conference trip with the loss. Giannis Antetokounmpo posted 30 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists in his debut season with Miami. Klay Thompson added 19 points and Bam Adebayo contributed 16 for the visitors. This marks Miami's fifth defeat in its first seven games of the year.

Lakers coach Frank Vogel rested Doncic for the start of the fourth quarter. Walker Kessler finished with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Ziaire Williams returned to the lineup after missing three games with a foot injury. Jake LaRavia retained the starting forward position that was previously assigned to Williams.

Heat president Pat Riley received a loud ovation from the crowd when his face appeared on the arena scoreboard. The Lakers unveiled a statue of the Showtime era coach outside their downtown venue last season. The Lakers played on Friday and then defeated Toronto on Sunday. Miami had not competed since Friday.

Both teams will return to action on Wednesday. The Heat travel to play the Los Angeles Clippers. The Lakers head to Sacramento to face the Kings.
