The 46-page arrest affidavit for Dale Smith Jr., charged in the disappearance of Michelle Parker, was unsealed this week. The filing includes photographs investigators say show injuries on Smith's face and body from the night Parker vanished. It also includes images of Parker's vehicle with dark-colored mud on the tires and inside the car. Parker's family was shown those vehicle photos for the first time recently, and family members said the mud would not normally have been there.
Parker, an Orlando mother, has been missing since November 2011. Her body has never been found. Smith, her ex-fiancé, is charged with second-degree murder in connection with her disappearance. Smith has maintained his innocence.
Orlando police said advancements in digital forensics allowed investigators to reexamine data from 2011, turning up new location information and communications between devices. Police said that technology played a key role in building the case against Smith. The affidavit was unsealed after a media organization fought for its release. Investigators are continuing to review the document.
The disappearance has been open since Nov. 17, 2011, the date Parker was last seen. Smith was charged after the digital forensics review of 2011 device data produced location records and messages between devices. The affidavit contains 46 pages, including the injury and vehicle photographs. Central Florida readers can review the filing and a timeline of the case through local news coverage.
