St. Petersburg, Florida. The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 10 to 1 on Monday night at Tropicana Field. The loss marks the third straight game for the Rays in the World Series. The Brewers lead the best-of-seven series three games to none.
The Rays entered the game with a chance to respond to two straight losses in Milwaukee. The previous two contests were decided by single runs. In Game 1 on Friday, October 23, the Brewers won 3 to 2 at American Family Field. In Game 2 on Saturday, October 24, the Rays led 4 to 0 before falling 5 to 4.
Sal Frelick hit a home run in the sixth inning of Game 2 to tie the score. Cooper Pratt drove in the winning run in the seventh. That result gave the Brewers a two-game series lead before Monday night.
Rays manager Kevin Cash benched Jonathan Aranda for Game 3. Aranda led the Rays with 13 hits in the postseason. He had four hits in the first two World Series games. Despite that production, he did not start the third game.
Milwaukee starter Freddy Peralta allowed five earned runs in 4 and 2/3 innings. Peralta had allowed only five earned runs in his nine previous starts combined. Those nine starts covered 50 innings. His performance on Monday was a sharp contrast to his previous work.
The game turned in the fifth inning. The Brewers scored eight runs in a row. Christian Yelich hit a home run in the first inning to put the Brewers ahead. He hit that homer off Peralta. Yelich is a former Milwaukee player who recently joined the Rays.
Jackson Chourio went 4 for 4 in the game. He hit two of his hits in the fifth inning. The Tropicana Field crowd was quiet during that scoring burst. The final score was 10 to 1. Robert Gasser started for the Brewers.
Game 4 is scheduled for Tuesday, October 27, at Tropicana Field. If a fifth game is needed, it will be played on Wednesday, October 28, in St. Petersburg. The Rays must win the next three home games to force a Game 7.
