The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 on Monday night to take a 3-0 lead in the World Series. The game featured the first eight-run, two-out inning in World Series history. This record-setting performance came during the fifth inning at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.

Milwaukee entered the fifth inning with a 2-0 lead. They expanded that advantage to 7-0 on three consecutive hits. Brice Turang, Garrett Mitchell, and Cooper Pratt all reached base on pitches to starter Freddy Peralta and relievers. The Brewers scored eight total runs in a span of 17 pitches during that frame.

The offensive surge began when Jackson Chourio singled with one out. Christian Yelich followed with a walk. William Contreras grounded into a double play, but the forceout call was overturned by replay. Umpire Alfonso Marquez reversed the decision made by on-field umpire Dan Bellino. This turned a routine groundout into an infield single that loaded the bases.

Reliever Cam Booser took the mound from there. Turang hit a 106 mph one-hopper that bounced past Rays shortstop Taylor Walls. The ball found the gap in short center field for a two-run single. Walls described the sensation of the ball glancing off his glove as feeling like a knife in the chest.

The Brewers continued their attack with hits from Mitchell and Pratt. Sal Frelick added an opposite-field double that hit the wall in the left-field corner. David Hamilton then lined a shoulder-high fastball into center field for a run-scoring single. Chourio capped the inning with an opposite-field RBI double that landed near the warning track.

Tampa Bay had earlier taken the lead in the third inning. Christian Yelich and William Contreras hit consecutive RBI singles on opposite-field contact. The Rays starter, Freddy Peralta, noted that the Brewers were disciplined at the plate. He said he tried to hit the ball the other way to avoid their power.

Rays manager Kevin Cash described the team's current situation with a chip and chair mentality. He stated that the team has a seat at the table and must do something with their remaining chances. Cash said the only thing the team can do is win the next game. The Rays have historically struggled from 3-0 deficits in World Series history.

Griffin Jax will start Game 4 for Tampa Bay on Tuesday. He said the team got its butts kicked and will try to forget about the deficit. Jax plans to sleep off the loss and come back ready to fight. The Brewers lead the series after three games at American Family Field and Tropicana Field.
