Melbourne Orlando International Airport restarted flight operations on Tuesday following extreme flooding that halted activity Monday.

Airport officials reported that terminal services remain limited due to disruptions in the city’s water system. Heavy rainfall caused flash flooding across parts of Brevard County, including Melbourne. The city recorded between 21 and 23 inches of rain.

City crews are working to locate and repair multiple water main breaks, according to an airport news release. The disruption affects all residential and commercial customers served by Melbourne's water system, including the airport.

Passengers face specific restrictions inside the terminal. All restrooms are closed because of inadequate water pressure. Officials encourage travelers to use restrooms before arriving at the airport. Hand sanitizer is available throughout the terminal during the closure.

Food service is also reduced. All restaurants and food concessions are closed because they cannot prepare food. A limited selection of prepackaged snacks and bottled drinks remains available for purchase.

Several roads in the area were closed by floodwaters, prompting officials to urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel. It is not yet known when full terminal services will resume.
