Great Falls business owners face a rigid administrative requirement this winter: the city no longer accepts general business license renewals via digital channels or telephone. Great Falls Fire Rescue issued the directive to clarify that payment must be physically delivered, eliminating the option to process transactions remotely.

The department recently began mailing renewal notices to local establishments. The communication explicitly states that owners cannot renew their licenses online or by phone. This policy forces businesses to choose between mailing their payment or visiting the office in person, a logistical hurdle for operations with limited staff during the holiday season.

The deadline for compliance is December 31, 2026. While two months may appear sufficient on the calendar, Fire Rescue warned that the period can pass quickly as owners focus on year-end sales. The department urged businesses to act early to avoid the stress of last-minute administrative tasks during the holidays.

Businesses with questions regarding the renewal process can contact Great Falls Fire Rescue directly at 406-727-8070. The agency serves as the primary point of contact for license inquiries in the city, managing the paperwork and payment collection for general commercial operations.

The in-person and mail-only requirement stands in contrast to the digital-first trends common in modern municipal governance. By restricting payment methods, the city ensures a physical paper trail for each renewed license, though it places the burden of physical delivery squarely on the business owner before the calendar year ends.
