Seminole County election clerks checked out supplies on Monday to prepare for polls to open on Tuesday, the day before the midterm election. Supervisor of Elections Amy Pennock said the staff is ensuring every polling location is fully stocked and ready for voters.
The preparations follow a surge in early voting activity. A total of 89,972 ballots were cast during the early voting period. Pennock noted that this figure is 13 percent higher than the turnout in the 2022 midterm election. "We had 13% over the 2022 election, so very steady turnout," Pennock said. "We’re very excited. We’re looking forward to a busy Election Day."
Voters faced lines at each of the county’s seven early voting sites. Casselberry emerged as the busiest location for those casting ballots before Election Day. Pennock expects similar congestion on Tuesday. "I think we’re going to see some lines at Election Day. It just means people are excited to get out there and vote," she said.
Election officials urged residents to research their specific polling locations in advance. Voters must bring a valid photo ID that includes a signature. Those who cannot present valid identification will receive a provisional ballot. Vote by mail ballots must be returned to the Supervisor of Elections office by 7 p.m. Tuesday to be counted.
Pennock advised voters to plan their travel routes and check parking availability before heading out. "Get to know where your polling location is. Get to know where the parking is. Take your umbrella, raincoat, make sure you have a plan to get out and vote," Pennock said.
