Six people remained hospitalized as of Sunday morning, including one in critical condition, following a shooting near Florida A&M University's Bragg Memorial Stadium, the Tallahassee Police Department said. Five other victims have since been released from the hospital.

Officers responded around 8 p.m. Saturday to reports of gunfire near Perry and Manatee streets, not far from the stadium. Police Chief Lawrence Revell said at least 12 people were hurt, evenly split between six adults and six minors.

According to preliminary information released by the department early Sunday, 11 of the victims suffered gunshot wounds, while one person was injured while running away. Three people have serious injuries and one has critical injuries. Eight others are believed to have injuries that are not life-threatening. The youngest victim is 11 years old, and at least one victim is a student at FAMU.

Investigators are still working to determine what led to the violence. Citing the preliminary investigation, police said there appears to have been some kind of argument or fight between two or three people before the shooting, though they offered no further detail. Police have not named any persons of interest or suspects, and no arrests have been made.

FAMU hosted its homecoming game Saturday night against the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions, losing 31-28. Authorities have said it is not known whether the shooting had any connection to the university or the football game.

In a statement, Revell expressed sympathy for those affected. "Tonight, our thoughts are with the victims and their families as they face the devastating impact of this violence," he said. He added that it is "especially heartbreaking to know that children are among those injured."

Revell also praised the officers who arrived first. Before the scene was fully secure, he said, they put their own safety at risk to carry victims to safety and take them to the hospital. He described their actions as "nothing short of heroic." FAMU also issued a statement about the shooting on its social media pages.

The police department said it is actively investigating and will provide more updates as information becomes available. Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information is asked to call Tallahassee police at 850-891-2000 or Crime Solvers at 850-574-TIPS.
