Six straight losses have left the Philadelphia Eagles at 2-6 and in last place in the NFC East, but running back Saquon Barkley says he intends to remain in Philadelphia. Speaking to reporters on Sunday night after a 27-10 defeat by the Washington Commanders, Barkley stated his desire to stay with the organization.
“I would love to be here,
Barkley said. “I plan on being here. I don’t like the way the season is going, but I am not one of those guys that wants to jump ship.” He described his approach as being part of the solution rather than leaving, hoping to be a reason the team fixes its issues.
The team faces a critical period with one game left before the Nov. 10 trade deadline. Next Sunday, the Giants, who lead the NFC East, will travel to Philadelphia. The Eagles also contend with injuries to several players, including quarterback Jalen Hurts. Barkley addressed his status given these roster challenges.
In Sunday's game, Barkley had 14 touches for 54 yards and one touchdown. He did not play the full allotment of snaps due to hamstring and back injuries. In his third season with the Eagles, he has rushed for 274 yards on 56 carries for a 4.9-yard average and two rushing touchdowns. He has also caught seven passes for 41 yards.
The Eagles recently traded offensive lineman Cam Jurgens to the Baltimore Ravens for two draft picks. That move has opened the door to conversations about future transactions. Despite the recent personnel changes, Barkley maintains he wants to stick in Philadelphia.
