Brevard County's Parks & Recreation Department has shut down seven beach crossovers and six boat ramps, telling people headed for the water to take extra care. The closures cover access from Melbourne Beach to Merritt Island.

The closed crossovers are Val M. Steele Park at 3535 S Hwy A1A in Melbourne Beach, Chris' Break Crossover at 3830 S. Highway A1A in Melbourne Beach, South Patrick Residents Association Park at 499 Jimmy Buffett Mem Hwy in Satellite Beach, Howard E. Futch Memorial Park at Paradise Beach at 2301 Jimmy Buffett Mem Hwy in Melbourne, Canova Beach Park's central and south crossovers at 3299 N Hwy A1A in Indian Harbour Beach, Bonsteel Park at 8455 Jimmy Buffett Mem Hwy in Melbourne Beach, and Kelly Park East Shoreline at 2550 North Banana River Drive in Merritt Island.

The county's list also closes the Kelly Park East Boat Ramp, Parish Park Boat Ramp, Long Point Campground Boat Ramp, John Jorgensens Landing, Christenson's Landing, and First Street Boat Ramp. The floating dock at Christenson's Landing remains open.

The closures come as rough ocean conditions, King Tide, and coastal erosion affect the shoreline. The county says people should only swim near a guarded lifeguard station.

Earlier this week, the City of Satellite Beach announced its own beach crossovers were closed, citing strong winds, King Tides, and beach erosion. The county's closures were listed in a Facebook post from its Parks & Recreation Department and the City of Satellite Beach.
