David Bowie recorded a series of influential live performances in 1978 that remain central to his artistic legacy. A new immersive concert experience titled Stage will bring those specific shows back to audiences in Berlin.
The production is scheduled to premiere on February 14, 2027, at the Uber Arena. This debut coincides with the 77th Berlin International Film Festival. The project developed in collaboration with the David Bowie Estate relies on previously unseen footage from the Isolar II World Tour.
Filmmaker Brett Morgen found the archival material while working on his 2022 documentary Moonage Daydream. The clips capture Bowie performing music from his Berlin era. The production team has restored this material and will present it using modern audiovisual technology.
Stage differs from a standard concert film by creating an immersive environment for the audience. The setup includes large screens, transparent LED displays, surround sound, and theatrical lighting. These elements work together to place viewers within the performance space.
The producers intend to present the original live performances without using holograms or artificial intelligence recreations of the singer. Following the initial showing in Berlin, the experience is expected to travel to other international venues.
