Macomb Community College will hold an information session on November 11 at 5 p.m. in Room 191 of the T Building on its South Campus in Warren. The event details the Michigan Apprenticeship Program Plus, or MAP+, a tuition-free initiative designed to prepare students for entry-level jobs in manufacturing and construction.
The program limits each cohort to 22 participants. Students complete a single semester of technical coursework and career readiness seminars. These seminars cover time management, critical thinking, resume development, and interview skills. Upon completion, participants earn 13 college credits and an Industrial Readiness Certificate.
Mark Jewett, associate dean for Engineering and Advanced Technology, described the program as a no-cost on-ramp to careers in manufacturing and construction. “In one semester students earn college credit, get hands-on training in the skills employers need right now and learn what it takes to land a job and keep it,” Jewett said. He noted that high school seniors and adults looking to change careers can benefit from the structure.
The curriculum ends with an employer networking event. Local businesses interview MAP+ students for entry-level skilled trade positions at this gathering. The college stated that employers at the event are ready to hire. This direct connection aims to shorten the path from classroom training to employment.
Applicants for the winter 2027 semester must submit materials by November 20. The required documents include a completed MAP+ application, a high school or college transcript, and either SAT scores or ACT WorkKeys scores. If an applicant lacks a previous assessment, the college will arrange a no-cost WorkKeys evaluation after receiving the application.
Those who cannot attend the November 11 session can contact the program directly. The college provided the email address map_plus@macomb.edu for program details and application requests. The session will also walk attendees through the specific steps of the application process.
Macomb Community College is the largest community college in Michigan and grants the most associate degrees in the state. The institution offers programs for youth through seniors, including early college options, university transfer pathways, and workforce education.
