San Diego County will open 180 additional vote centers on Oct. 31.

The Registrar of Voters announced the expansion in a statement. The new locations raise the total from the 41 centers already operating to 221 sites countywide. Voters can use any location in the county regardless of their home address, the Registrar said.

The schedule started Oct. 24, when 41 centers opened across the county. The next step comes Oct. 31, when the remaining 180 locations come online. Vote centers run 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Nov. 2. On Nov. 3, hours shift to 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Each center offers in-person voting, mail ballot drop-off, accessibility assistance, multilingual materials, and same-day registration or registration updates, according to the Registrar. The agency also notes ballot marking devices can print and review ballots but do not store or count votes; voters hand completed ballots to a poll worker.

Mail ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 3 and reach election officials within seven days after Election Day. Ballots placed in official drop boxes are due by 8 p.m. Nov. 3. The Registrar reports voters can track ballot status at california.ballottrax.net/voter/.

Campaigning and petition circulation are prohibited within 100 feet of any vote center or official drop box. That rule covers campaign signs and campaign clothing supporting or opposing candidates or ballot measures. Center locations are posted at www.sdvote.com; voter information is also available at 858-565-5800 or 800-696-0136.
