A Cabell County jury returned guilty verdicts against Amar Abdu Richardson on October 30 for the 2025 murder of Rahmel Lundy.
The 23-year-old defendant was convicted of second-degree murder, use or presentment of a firearm, and person prohibited from possession of a firearm. The charge represents a step down from the initial first-degree murder indictment filed by prosecutors.
Police linked Richardson to the death of 33-year-old Rahmel Lundy, who was shot in the 500 block of Seventh Avenue in Huntington on March 20 at approximately 7:30 p.m. The incident occurred in a residential area where the victim was found.
Huntington police officers and agents from the U.S. Marshals Service located Richardson the following Monday. Officers took him into custody in the 2000 block of 11th Avenue, ending a one-week search for the suspect.
Huntington Mayor Patrick Farrell praised the coordination between local and federal law enforcement after the arrest. In a statement issued that week, Farrell said the response sends a clear message that those who commit violence in the city will be held accountable.
The jury’s decision resolves the criminal case against Richardson, who had been charged with killing Lundy during the early evening hours of the previous spring.
