A shooting occurred at an apartment complex in Hialeah just before midnight on Thursday.

Miami-Dade firefighters and Hialeah firefighters responded to the scene on 22 Court and West 61st Avenue. The agencies transported one adult via helicopter to a local trauma center. Paramedics were seen treating and moving a person on a stretcher while a rescue helicopter arrived on site.

Surveillance video captured one scream, two sounds resembling gunshots, and a second scream prior to the incident. Police and rescue units remained on the scene for a significant portion of the early morning hours.

Kelly Morejon, a neighbor, stated she heard rapid firing around 12:00 a.m. and initially believed the noise came from a vehicle. Lianet Marin reported seeing a group of intoxicated individuals gathering in the area before the shooting. Marin said she left to care for a sick child and returned to find the group fighting near the entrance.

Walter Peña, another resident, described the victims as quiet and well-mannered neighbors. He said he had never heard disturbances from their unit before this incident. Another neighbor reported seeing two men with blood on them. That neighbor said a police officer told them two people had been shot.

Residents expressed confusion about the cause of the violence, with some noting they had seen the residents earlier that evening. The Hialeah police department had not responded to media requests regarding the specific cause of the incident or the condition of the injured as of early Friday morning.
