Caitlin Clark released a new children's picture book on Tuesday.

The title is “EXTRAordinary! A Little EXTRA to Reach BIG Dreams.” Random House Books for Young Readers published the work. It is written in rhyming verse. Clark said she initially considered a non-rhyming format but decided the rhyme scheme served the story better.

The book draws from a quote currently displayed on a mirror in Clark's parents' house. The phrase reads: “The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is the little EXTRA.” Clark said the mirror remains in the home where she grew up. She hopes to pass the mirror to one of her future children.

“I don’t think it’s always something you realize or notice when you’re looking in the mirror that it’s something motivational,” Clark told The Associated Press in a phone interview.

The narrative centers on teamwork, perseverance, and the support of family and teammates. Clark stated that the content reflects her own upbringing and career path. “You’re going to need a little extra love, or courage,” she said.

Clark has maintained a close relationship with books since childhood. Her mother, an English major, gave her a book every Christmas Eve. Clark noted that the types of books have evolved from picture books to leadership guides. “Inside every book she writes a note,” Clark said. “So books have always been a part of my life growing up.”

Clark is 24 years old and just completed her third professional season. The Indiana Fever were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Las Vegas Aces. Clark finished the season healthy, unlike the previous year when she recovered from an injury. She has continued to engage with young audiences through her foundation and visits to Iowa Family Children’s Hospital. She also appeared in a commercial with Cookie Monster, a character she watched during her youth.
