Universal Orlando announced on Thursday that a new indoor roller coaster is being built for Dark Universe, one of the themed lands at Epic Universe. The addition will bring the total number of attractions in that specific area of the park to three.

The company stated in a news release that the new ride will feature a storyline inspired by the Universal Monsters franchise. No official opening date has been set for the attraction. Universal described the timeline as arriving in the years to come.

Construction is already underway on the new coaster. The ride is being built on an expansion plot located directly behind Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment. This marks one of the first major expansions at Epic Universe since the park opened to the public in May 2025.

Dark Universe currently operates two major attractions. The first is Curse of the Werewolf, an outdoor spinning coaster. The second is Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, a dark ride that features several characters from the monster canon. These characters include the Creature from the Black Lagoon, Dracula, Wolf Man, and Phantom of the Opera.

The new indoor coaster will join these existing rides. Universal had previously hinted at plans to add more attractions to the theme park even before its debut. The park currently holds several designated expansion plots for future development. One of these plots is situated near The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Ministry of Magic.

The Dark Universe project is part of a larger wave of new experiences coming to the Universal Orlando Resort. Several other major projects are in the works, with many scheduled to open in 2027. Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, a high-speed coaster based on the film franchise, is set to open at Universal Studios Florida. This new ride will replace the existing Rip Ride Rockit coaster.

CityWalk, the retail and entertainment district adjacent to the parks, is also receiving new additions. Luke Combs' Category 10, a music and entertainment venue, is planned to arrive in late 2027. Additionally, Universal Studios is opening a reimagined version of its Universal Horror Make-Up show later this year. That show will feature content from movies and franchises produced by Blumhouse.
